Overview

The Wire Fox Terrier is a small hunting dog breed, of British origin. Fox Terriers come in two varieties: wire-haired and smooth-coated. Moreover, the wire Fox Terrier is much more common than the smooth-haired one. However, the wire-haired Fox Terrier needs to be trimmed twice a year to keep the coat in good condition. The name fox terrier came from the fact that these particular dogs hunt foxes. The Fox Terrier's short, straight and muscular back allows him to deftly penetrate burrows and help his owner on the hunt. These dogs are usually found in black and white with red spots all over the body.

Temperament

The Wire Fox Terrier is a very curious, nimble and active dog breed. The energy and curiosity of this breed attracts people who are always on the move and like to travel a lot. Its sociable and friendly nature allows it to get along well with new people and children, and it also loves active games and spending a lot of time outdoors with its owner. If you want your Fox Terrier to be a hunting companion, get into training from an early age, this breed is excellent and easy to train and educate. They can be a little more energetic and therefore need lots of exercise, such as running around the fenced yard on all long walks.

Weight

The Wire Fox Terrier is a miniature hunting dog breed that is quite petite. The Wire Fox Terrier can weigh 6 to 8 pounds and be 35-40 centimeters tall at the withers. Such a dog will have enough space in the apartment, because it is very compact in size.

Lifespan

Wire Fox Terriers have an average lifespan of 13-15 years, but with excellent care and attention, your pet can live much longer. This breed rarely succumbs to serious health problems, however, illnesses such as diabetes, dystychiasis, epilepsy, deafness, and myasthenia sometimes occur in Fox Terriers. In addition, Fox Terriers are often subject to food allergies, so it is very important to monitor the diet of the dog and adhere to the basic rules in feeding.

Puppies

The wire fox terrier breed can have an average litter size of 2 to 5 puppies. Also, because Fox Terriers are a relatively energetic breed, puppies should be socialized and trained fairly early to allow them to develop better skills, both hunting and just the basics in training. When choosing a puppy, always pay attention to his activity, because a healthy puppy is an active puppy.
