A Dandie Dinmont Terrier is a small sized Scottish dog. This dog was first bred to hunt otters and badgers and now has found it's place as a good family dog. History of Dandie Dinmont Terrier
Although this dog has a long history, Dandie Dinmont Terrier didn't always have the given name. His roots goes back to 1700 as a terrier dog that was used for hunting purposes at the land between Scotland and England - Cheviot Hills.
One of the admirer of this dog, sir Walter Scott, wrote a novel called "Guy Mannering" in which he made a character Dandie Dinmont, a guy who kept few of this terriers, thanks to whom this dog got a name later on. At 19th century, this dog caught eye of the royal class and became part of the royal entourage.
Temperament of Dandie Dinmont Terrier
These dogs are considered to be very intelligent and great for hunting area as well as for being a family members. Great with children but without very high dose of energy as some other smaller breeds have. Dandie Dinmont Terriers are very similar to other terriers with their independent and courageous behavior. They don't really like to be alone but they are still not considered to be very sensitive dogs. Positive training that starts while the dog is still a puppy is considered to be very successful at the field of dog training.

This dog is considered to be one of the rare dog breeds that are almost disease free. It can come in two different colors - pepper that is silver grey or black with a hint of blue as well as in mustard color that is reddsih brown. Dandie Dinmont Terrier needs a regular brushing and a treatment for getting rid of the dead hair at least few times a year.
