Cockapoo
Overview
This crossbreed between a poodle and a cocker spaniel is one of the most adorable pets to own. Cockapoos are known for their fluffy coats and bright eyes which are bound to win your affection immediately you see them. This breed had long established itself as a family favorite in American society long before the idea of designer dogs became such a lucrative business.
Cockapoo’s weight is between 6-30 pounds and can grow to a height of about 30 cm. This size makes them convenient for almost all home sizes and spaces. The fact that cockapoos are bred for different parents who are essentially different breeds of dogs means that they can come in a variety of sizes and character traits. A mini cockapoo usually refers to a cross between a toy doodle and a smaller cocker spaniel. Sometimes this can also be a cross between a poodle and another cockapoo. Cockapoo can be found in a variety of colors including solid chocolate, black and white, red merle, blue merle, solid crème, red, white among other colors.
Because they are bred from poodles that have a reputation of being hypoallergenic, cockapoos are also sometimes mistakenly thought to be hypoallergenic. However, this is a wrong representation of how allergy to dog fur works and you should still be careful around the cockapoo if you are allergic to dog fur.
Temperament
The small size, bright eyes and curly fur of the cockapoo should make them an instant magnet to attention from friends and family. They are known for their enduring charm because of their looks size and adorable personalities. Once you socialize them well, cockapoos are usually friendly and happy to be around other people. They are energetic and easy to train.
They are clever and fast learners and will benefit from brain exercises, stimulation, and training. Their friendliness and happy demeanor make them good company for family members or people who need pet companionship. They can be described as highly social and playful but can also alternative to being cuddly and peaceful around the house. Their friendly nature means that they are also good with kids and are not known to bark often.
Life span
With a good diet and care, cockapoos can live for up to 13 years or more. Cockapoos are also known to be healthy due to the hybrid vigor present from crossing two breeds. However, their small size also means that they are vulnerable to attacks from other bigger pets or can be injured by large objects.
