They are an old breed, and selective breeding has allowed them to develop healthy characteristics that can allow them to live up to 14 years. Adequate activity, good diet and care can guarantee longer lifespans. However, the owner also needs to watch out for the high risk of injuries that they can get during herding and hunting, which can put their lives at risk.
