Black Norwegian Elkhound
Overview
The Black-Norwegian Elkhound originated from Scandinavia & is a so ancient breed, living thousands of times old. The dog will have worked while a hunting & guard dog to these Vikings, where both will have been used for tracking large and small-game, working while a team among hunters. The dog works excellent at night, & is also capable as a sledge-dog. If Norway continued to move into battle, then these Minister on defense could mobilize and utilize all privately controlled Elkhounds. The reason to the breed's friendly & reliability, it's now a extra enchanting family-pet living in the homes.
Appearance
These male attains 19 to 21 inches on height, while these female is 18 to 20-inches on height. These male-dog weighs 50 to 60-pounds, and these female is 40 to 55-pounds. Its hair is short, coarse, & thick, and needs proper grooming.
It's smaller than different Elkhounds. It's a medium measurement dog, strong, athletic, & squarely built. These skull remains flat among a wedge-shaped head, & the muzzle owns a straight-nasal bridge. Both have dark-brown eyes & a black-nose. The lips remain black, & the jaw is active. The ears remain pointed & sit broadly & high on these head. These tail curls-over the back. Both have great forearms & muscular hindquarters, among white markings at these chest & feet.
Temperament
It's not just a hunting-dog but too a family-dog. Both are great among children; all loyal & friendly. Both are gentle & docile, though they are not to be taken with pets different than kittens and dogs, doing a hunting-dog by energy. Both are too energetic & independent, so both need firm though kind discipline. It's best not-to over stuff this elkhound, because they gain mass easily.
Grooming
The reason of the dense coats, both can resist all kinds of weather. Both have a softer-undercoat among a denser outer-coat. They require regular-grooming as the fur is very thick. The coat doesn't smell like normal dogs the reason being they own a natural immunity to water & dirt. It's best non to over-wash the dogs, hence you doesn't strip below the natural-oils in the coats that give protection.
Hunting
The elkhounds remains hunting & guard pups by nature & can breathe game a distance away. Though both are too used to sledding, herding, & watchdogs, they're hunters at mind and work properly at night. Both have stamina & agility and could track for minutes in adverse climate conditions & rugged terrain minus tiring.
Genetic-Diseases
These breed is predisposed to hip-dysplasia, pyotraumatic-dermatitis, and progressive-retinal atrophy (PRA).
