American White Shepherd
Overview
The American white shepherd is nearly identical to the German Shepherd and stands as an offshoot of the breed. The American white shepherd emerged from the white coat lines of German shepherds. Some of the first dogs were imported from Europe to the United States and Canada and continued to breed out the darker fur traits of traditional German shepherds.
Not An Albino:
They are commonly confused as albino dogs but white German shepherds are considered to be of a white coat line. The breed grows to about 24 to 26 inches with females spanning 22 to 24 inches. Most of the dogs can grow between 77 to 85 pounds when they reach full adulthood.
Temperament
The overall temperament of the American white shepherd is a dog that extremely loyal to their owners. These pets can be protective but also very tranquil at times. In their younger days, they're extremely cheerful and they exhibit a great sense of obedience. American white shepherds serve as excellent herding and guard dogs and are also very obedient family pets.
Their demeanor makes them perfect to have around children and quite adaptable but they can grow protective when situations may threaten their family. It can take some time for them to trust new strangers.
Active Pets
As quite active dogs, The American White Shepherd will require daily exercises such as a walk or jog. They love to play fetch and take part in even complex agility tasks. They enjoy getting outside regularly and enjoying jogs, walks, and hikes with their owners.
With proper socialization, they can be fantastic to have around other dogs and more trusting of outsiders.

The coat in American white shepherds is often very long with stiffer bristled hair. The hair can often resemble a feathered look and shedding is often a concern for many pet owners. Daily brushing is required especially when they begin to release their thicker winter coat.
