Overview

Afghan Shepherd is a variety of active dogs assisted travelers in protecting their convoys and cattle against thieves and wild creatures. They got their name from the Kochi people of Afghanistan where they originated. They are tall dogs with a strong nose, cropped ears, long neck, straightforward line at the back, and a docked tail.

According to their history, Afghan Shepherd dogs were brave and strong enough to handle predators such as bears and lions, and while the Kochi nomads traveled on various terrains including deserts, mountain ranges, freezing colds and flat grasslands. They survived in all kinds of extreme environmental conditions without shelter, food and even water. These dogs have an exceptional capability of adapting to different environments.

The cycle begins again at the end of the telegen phase. This cycle duration may vary depending on the age and breed of the dog. In addition, the cycle duration of an outside dog may differ from that of an inside dog.
